    Child Safety Board Commitment and Oversight Statement

    Housing Choices is committed to embedding a child safe culture throughout our organisation. For all children who come in contact with our services, we will:

    • Provide a warm, welcoming and safe service
    • At all times act in the best interests of children and work proactively to help prevent child abuse and neglect in our communities
    • Appropriately address issues of potential or perceived child abuse and neglect in compliance with our policies and applicable laws

    Safe Environment

    We provide a safe environment to all residents and people including:

    • Young people and children
    • People with disabilities
    • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples
    • People from culturally diverse backgrounds
    • The advocates and representatives of all the above

    Complaints about safety, abuse and neglect need to be managed by different systems. We will tell you which system and what to expect in these situations.

    Our Commitment to Privacy

    Protecting your privacy is important to the Housing Choices Australia Group (HCA Group). The HCA Group is committed to managing the handling of personal information it collects in the provision of housing services in accordance with the Australian Privacy Principles under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and other applicable privacy and related laws. You can expect that personal information collected by all HCA Group entities will be handled in a manner that is consistent with our policies and in accordance with applicable laws.

  • Whistleblower Principles

    The HCA Group takes reports of serious wrongdoing extremely seriously. We are committed to supporting and protecting whistleblowers and acting on any reports quickly and fairly.

    We have other policies and procedures which govern receipt of complaints regarding our services and grievances from staff these should be used prior to engaging the Whistleblower process.

    Where the conduct to be reported may be criminal, The HCA Group fully supports and encourages prompt reporting to external parties such as the police, anti-corruption bodies or child safety regimes.

    External Whistleblowers

    Contractors, former employees, support partners or residents, are welcome to use the HCA whistleblower process. Whistleblowers can report anonymously, however this may impact our investigation options.

    The Whistleblower Protection Officer (WPO) will safeguard the interests of whistleblower making reports under this policy, and will ensure the integrity of the reporting mechanism. WPO responsibilities include:

    • Safeguard the interest of a whistleblower
    • Assess and protect the welfare of a whistleblower
    • Enable a safe and supportive work environment for internal whistleblowers
    • Respond to any concerns or reports of victimisation by a whistleblower

    In the event that the Reportable Conduct relates to all WPOs listed above, the Board Chair, is the alternative WPO.
