A major construction milestone brings Adelaide’s new purpose-built accommodation and support facility for women experiencing homelessness one step closer to completion.
Housing Choices Australia, Catherine House and Hindmarsh have celebrated the topping out of New Generation Catherine House, marking significant progress on a $36 million development that will provide 52 apartments and a dedicated Women’s Centre in Adelaide.
Purpose-built to support women experiencing homelessness, domestic and family violence and trauma, the development will bring crisis accommodation, longer-term social housing and specialist support services together under one roof.
The milestone was marked with The Hon Katrine Hildyard MP, South Australian Minister for Human Services, Minister for Seniors and Ageing Well, and Minister for Women, Louise Miller-Frost MP, Federal Member for Boothby, Nat Cook MP, Speaker of the State Assembly, Hon Senator Penny Wong, alongside project partners, Catherine House donors and supporters.

Bringing housing and specialist support together
New Generation Catherine House will comprise 20 crisis accommodation dwellings and 32 social housing apartments, providing women including those with infants and children with access to safe, secure accommodation.
The dedicated Women’s Centre will offer trauma-informed recovery, education, wellbeing and training programs, helping women access support as they work towards greater independence and housing stability. The development will also provide 24/7 specialised on-site support.
As part of the Housing Choices Australia Group, Catherine House draws on decades of experience supporting women experiencing homelessness. The new development will replace ageing facilities with a purpose-built environment that brings accommodation, specialist support and recovery programs together to better meet women’s needs.

A shared commitment to tackling homelessness
The project is supported by a combination of government funding from Housing Australia, the Australian Government Department of the Treasury, the South Australian Housing Trust and generous support from Catherine House’s philanthropic donors and supporters.
Housing Choices Australia acknowledges the commitment of its funding partners, Catherine House’s philanthropic donors and supporters, whose contributions are helping deliver this important development, and thanks to delivery partner Hindmarsh for its work on the project and for hosting the topping-out ceremony.
For more than 37 years, Catherine House has supported women experiencing homelessness in South Australia. New Generation Catherine House represents an important next chapter in that work, strengthening pathways from crisis accommodation towards longer-term housing and recovery.
Construction is expected to be completed in early 2027.
