Get Involved with Housing Choices WA

Overview

Housing Choices WA encourages all tenants to have their say about what we do and how we deliver our services.

We have a range of programs and initiatives that tenants can get involved with to provide us with feedback and to connect with other tenants in their area. We are committed to making them accessible to everyone.

Housing Choices WA’s Advisory Committee of Tenants (ACT)

The ACT is a tenant-led group that guides decision-making on how we communicate and engage with tenants and gives direct feedback to Housing Choices WA about our policies, procedures, strategy and service delivery.

You can nominate to join the ACT during our annual call for nominations.

Tenant Focus Groups

You have the opportunity to give feedback to Housing Choices WA at meetings and consultation groups we hold in your area. These groups provide a way for you to share your ideas and give our staff feedback about our policies, procedures, strategy and service delivery.

Participate in surveys

Our Annual Tenant Survey is sent to each of our tenants and provides you with an opportunity to let us know what we are doing well and where you think we could strengthen our service delivery.

We may also ask you for feedback throughout the year on a range of topics.

Have your say in a way that suits you

If you prefer not to attend meetings or find it difficult to leave your home, you can still have your say and share your views with Housing Choices WA. You can give feedback to Housing Choices WA at any time by completing a Feedback Form, postal survey or by contacting Housing Choices WA by phone or email. Alternatively, click here to be directed to our Online Feedback and Complaints Form.

Advisory Committee of Tenants

What is the Housing Choices WA Advisory Committee of Tenants?

The Housing Choices WA Advisory Committee of Tenants (ACT) is a tenant-led group that meets every two months to discuss issues important to tenants and Housing Choices WA.

The ACT provides tenants and tenant carers with an avenue to have their say about what we do and how we deliver our services. The ACT also guides decision-making on how we communicate and engage with tenants and gives direct feedback to Housing Choices WA about our policies, procedures, strategy and service delivery. As part of the ACT you can:

  • advise on how Housing Choices WA communicates with tenants
  • share your ideas and generate solutions
  • provide feedback on Housing Choices WA policies, procedures, strategy and service delivery
  • assist in planning tenant projects and other opportunities for tenants to get involved

How was the ACT developed?

The ACT was developed by tenants!

Throughout 2019, we worked with a group of tenants to co-design the Terms of Reference and Code of Conduct for the Advisory Committee of Tenants. This means that tenants made joint decisions with staff on what the ACT would look like and how the committee would operate.

Why join the ACT?

Joining the ACT may help you to:
• have your voice and ideas heard
• develop new skills and confidence
• get involved in your community
• connect with and get to know other tenants
• make a difference to other tenants

Who can be a member?

Any Housing Choices WA tenant or lodge resident can apply to join the Housing Choices WA ACT. Carers of Housing Choices WA tenants can also apply.

Training and Support

Housing Choices WA is committed to providing the training and support that tenants need to feel comfortable and confident in their roles as tenant representatives. Each ACT member will receive consumer participation training and ongoing support from Housing Choices WA throughout their time on the committee.

Views@Home

The Views@Home email feedback group is a new online consultation group that provides tenants with an opportunity to share their views and comment on our tenant communication activities and initiatives.

Housing Choices WA is committed to communicating with our tenants in a way that is open, friendly, relevant and accessible. We develop fact sheets, forms, brochures, newsletters and letters each year and we want your feedback to make sure we are communicating with tenants the best way we can.

Views@Home group members will be asked to comment on Housing Choices WA publications, forms, fact sheets and more on an occasional basis. Housing Choices WA will consider the feedback and will incorporate tenant advice and recommendations wherever we can. All members of the feedback group will be sent a copy of what has been developed so they can see how their comments have been included.

Housing Choices WA encourages tenants and their household members to get involved in order to remain an active part of the community and stay connected with Housing Choices WA during the evolving COVID-19 situation.

To be involved with the Views@Home feedback group, tenants and residents must have an active email address that they check regularly.

Housing Choices WA is committed to making our programs and services accessible to all tenants. If you need support or assistance to be involved, please let us know.

If you would like to join the Views@Home group, or have questions about Views@Home, please contact Housing Choices WA’s Tenant Consultation and Communications Officer Amy Kidner on 0429 858 127 or email amy.kidner@hcau.org.au.
