St Albans Housing wins National Commendation for Residential Architecture
Housing Choices St Albans Housing project has won a national commendation in the multi-residential category of the 2022 Australia Institute of Architects National Architecture Awards.
“We are really proud to be recognised by Australia’s peak body for architecture in a category that is seeing more and more innovative and ecologically sustainable community homes designed for ageing in place with dignity,” James Henry, General Manager, Development, Housing Choices Australia said.
The project was recognised for its innovative design and quality within the community housing sector.
Held annually, the National Architecture Awards are dedicated to the promotion of distinction in Australian architecture. The program strives to positively shape the industry by acknowledging projects with positive impacts on the community.
“Within an economic context that is extremely difficult to negotiate, this collaboration between NMBW and MADA has delivered a flexible and dignified community housing model that focuses on the residents’ spatial agency and wellbeing,” noted the jury.
Congratulations to NMBW Architecture Studio in association with Monash Art, Design & Architecture, the development team here at Housing Choices Australia and to the other seven incredible projects up for nomination.
Housing Choices Australia’s innovative St Albans development in Melbourne’s west also took out AIA’s Victorian Architecture Award and was shortlisted for the Urban Development Institute of Australia (UDIA) Victoria Awards for Excellence in the Affordable Development category.
The collaborative project was supported by the Victorian Government through funding provided by the Victorian Property Fund following the approval of Minister for Consumer Affairs, and an Australian Research Council Linkage grant.
