Julie has lived at Queens Walk for nearly 12 years and says she wouldn’t want to live anywhere else.
“I’m so happy here,” she says. “I’ve never looked back, this really is home.”
Julie was one of the first tenants to move in when Housing Choices Tasmania took over management of the complex in 2014. She has recently moved into one of the 65 new units completed in August 2025.
Julie says an affordable, secure home has given her stability, helping her keep working part time and enjoy her life.
“When you hear about people paying $800 a week for rent, it’s unbelievable. I just couldn’t do that,” she says. “Having this place means I can live comfortably, stay close to work and still be part of the community.”
She loves what Queens Walk offers: the peaceful surroundings, the nearby walking track, chatting with her neighbours.
“I’m friendly with everyone,” she laughs. “If I see someone new, I’ll always say hello. It’s a real community here, people look out for each other.”
What stands out most for Julie is the support she gets from Housing Choices.
“Rebecca and the team have been amazing,” she says. “They look after us all and make sure the units are well kept. I’m so grateful.”
Rebecca is one of the tenancy officers at Housing Choices Tasmania and says helping people into their own home is rewarding work.
“I really enjoy getting to know the tenants and knowing that something that I can do, even something small, can help someone in a massive, impactful way.”
It has been a year since Julie moved into her new ground-floor home at Queens Walk, making everyday life easier after the stairs in her previous building had become difficult.
“Now it’s all very flat. Easy access. I’m stoked,” Julie says.
She has watched Queens Walk keep growing, with new play areas, barbecues and walkways giving residents more places to enjoy.
Over her 12 years with Housing Choices, Julie says the support has stayed consistent.
“I’ve never had a problem with anyone. All the coordinators have been lovely,” she says. “It’s very good, very efficient.”
Julie particularly remembers Rebecca’s support when she was seeking her current apartment.
“Rebecca went all out for me and really, really pushed me to get this unit,” she says. “I’m so thrilled.”
More than a decade after making Queens Walk home, Julie remains grateful.
“I appreciate very much that Housing Choices chose me to have one of their apartments,” she says. “I’m very, very happy.”
