Rental Payment Information

What will happens to my rent?

  • You will pay your rent directly to Housing Choices Tasmania, commencing from Monday 8 November when your lease transfers over from Housing Tasmania.

There will be no change to the way your Centrelink income is used to calculate your rent contribution.

Housing Choices Tasmania uses the same method for calculating tenant contributions as Housing Tasmania (i.e. 25% of assessable income or 75% of market rent), so the percentage of household income you pay will not be affected. However, if you are eligible to receive Commonwealth Rent Assistance, there will be one important difference.

What is Commonwealth Rent Assistance?

Commonwealth Rent Assistance (CRA) is a supplementary housing-related benefit provided by Centrelink to eligible people who rent in either the private rental or Community Housing market. If you are eligible for this benefit, it is paid to you in addition to your normal Centrelink payment or other income.

Once Housing Choices Tasmania manages your home, you will pay your usual tenant contribution plus the additional CRA to Housing Choices Tasmania as rent This allows us to provide a higher quality of service to you, without you being out of pocket for the enhanced serviced delivery.
