Sydney's Story

Sydney’s story

Resident: Western Australia

Sydney a proud Noongar man from Western Australia and grandfather to four wonderful grandchildren has been an Access Housing tenant since 2017. Secure housing gave Sydney stability to work towards fulfilling his dreams. Sydney loves to shares his knowledge and passion for his Aboriginal culture, history & connection to country.

Sydney works part-time at his local Woolworths stacking shelves by night, and by day is an accomplished artist. Access Housing staff first came across Sydney’s artistic talents when he exhibited in the Tenant Art Display in Headquarters in 2018. Sydney credits the experience of participating in the display as the motivator he needed to pursue his art further, producing 20 pieces of art the following year!

Since then Sydney has taken amazing strides in his journey to tell his story; he has explored opportunities, made connections and evolved his art, it now appears on canvas, mugs & T-shirts. This year his ambition of being on the big screen became a reality as a 10 minute short was screened in Perth CBD, he is currently working with JAK films on a full length documentary to be released next year & a feature film script.
