Engaged and effective support and community service relationships are central to the Housing Choices Australia group managing stable, thriving and evolving tenancies.
We partner with a range of support providers and community service organisations to share experiences and explore opportunities. We currently work with 60 partners across a wide variety of sectors including disability, mental health, homelessness, domestic violence and community support. The diversity of our relationships means we engage in different ways, depending on the needs of our mutual clients, to find the most practical ways to provide support and housing services. Connecting with partners and stakeholders is essential in developing long-term relationships and helping to understand each other’s concerns and expectations.
We are a partnership-based organisation our success and the well-being of our residents is built on the strength of those partnerships.
RSL Victoria Veteran’s accommodation in City of Yarra – Housing Choices Australia seeks opportunities to increase affordable housing and quality services where we can make a difference. A research project undertaken by SGS Economics and Consulting Pty Ltd on behalf of the Victorian Veterans Council identified a need for accommodation for young veterans. Based on these findings, Housing Choices Australia was awarded a grant of $1.35m from the Victorian Property Fund to deliver veterans accommodation in the City of Yarra. The objective of the project was to deliver short to medium-term accommodation to veterans experiencing personal issues due to financial, health or family matters.
Five contemporary units have been built on a well-located site owned by Housing Choices Australia for the exclusive use of the veteran community. The tenants will be nominated by the RSL Victorian Branch, an ex-Service Organisation, and will be a referral source to support services. In partnership with other ex-service organisations in Victoria, the RSL will tailor support for each veteran based on their circumstances – this could include assistance with temporary accommodation, paying bills, home maintenance, medical expenses, transport needs or just a bit of regular company and someone to talk to. The RSL’s network of trained, dedicated volunteers will provide the assistance required by each veteran.
Housing Choices Australia and the RSL Victorian Branch will work together to meet the demand for accommodation options tailored to young veterans and reduce the gap in available options for this group. Together we hope to increase security and stability and improve the wellbeing of veterans through integration with the local community and improved access to services.
In delivering this accommodation, both Housing Choices Australia and the RSL will build a partnership that provides younger veterans with accommodation, both now and into the future.
cohealth is a leading provider of community health and support services across Melbourne’s northern and western suburbs.
Our partnership spans over 13 years and continues to strengthen. Housing Choices Australia works closely with cohealth to ensure successful outcomes for mutual clients in both transitional and long-term housing.
Through this partnership we have seen the opening of Central City Community Health Centre, based in our Drill Hall apartments in Melbourne, where cohealth have office space. Housing Choices Australia participates in cohealth’s Housing Panels which is a panel of support and case managers who meet when a vacancy occurs in one of the cohealth-nominated properties, for us to work together to ensure successful tenancies.
This proactive partnership has enhanced the services we are able to provide to residents and has improved tenancy outcomes for cohealth clients in our housing.
